It was wonderful to be back at FISH on Saturday night, after such a long absence. Our Family Fun Night was held at the Chapel Street Centre, as usual, starting at 5pm with take-away tea, followed by games and challenges for all ages.
We played GIANT pictionary, using the whiteboard and went on a wild chicken chase, looking for someone hiding with Ralph the Chicken. In the photos above, you can see our teams getting creative, in a paper sculpture contest.
We also celebrated Tevunga's 4th birthday with cake and candles.
Join us next month, Saturday 29 August, when we'll be back again, with a different range of games and activities.
Welcome to the online version of FISH! Grab your family members and get together for an 'at-home' family fun night!
Here are some games and challenges for you to try.
HIDE THE FORK
At camp, we searched for forks which had been hidden earlier by Dave and myself. You could try this at home. Take turns to hide a number of forks around the house, and give the rest of the family a time limit to try and find them. The person who finds the most gets to have a turn at hiding them next time.
MAKE A 'FORKY'
Using a plastic fork (if you have one, or otherwise see if you're allowed to borrow one from the kitchen drawer), turn the fork into the character Forky from Toy Story. If you don't have googly eyes or pipe cleaners, you could make eyes and arms from paper. Be creative!
Email your photo of Forky to me and I'll post it to the blog. There will be a prize for the best Forky!
Here's a clip from the movie, introducing Forky:
CONUNDRUM
Give your family a jumbled up word and see if they can figure out what it is. Here's one from me...
You can enter online by clicking on the jumbled letters below:
Separate your group into two even teams and have them stand in two separate lines facing the opposite group.
1) The players at the opposite ends of each line are opponents. They will step out of the lines, so they are facing each other and looking down the middle of the two rows (like an old cowboy shoot-off).
2) They will both say, “Hagoo” and start to walk down the row toward each other.
3) They must not break eye contact and the object is to get to the opposite end of the line without laughing or smiling.
4) When the players pass each other, they must continue to maintain eye contact.
If a person does break eye contact, laughs, or smiles, they then must join the end of the line of the opposing team.
The teams can do or say any silly things to make the opposing player crack up, but they must be careful not to make their own player lose concentration. The teams may NOT touch another player. This process will continue until everyone has had a turn. The team with the most players at the conclusion of the game, wins.
Hope you have fun with these activities... let me know how you get on!
Last Saturday night, we had our final FISH night for 2019. It was our pre-Christmas edition, with a Christmas Quiz, Backwards Charades, Human Christmas Tree and a candy cane hunt.
Join us this Saturday 9 November at the Chapel Street Centre for FISH!
Our Family Fun Night kicks off at 5pm with tea in the lounge. Bring your own picnic or takeaway tea for your family.
We then move through to the hall for an evening of fun challenges, games and competitions for all ages - this time with a little bit of a Christmas theme!
The evening ends at 7pm with ice-cream and chocolate fish. See you there!
Here are a few photos from our last FISH night - the LEGO EDITION.
It was so good to see all the amazing teamwork going on, and everyone working together on challenges - all ages getting involved. There were some pretty crazy creations by the end of the night - definitely worthy of Grand Designs!
Thanks to all of you who came out to our inaugural FISH: Lego Edition, tonight down at the Chapel Street Centre. What an awesome night!
The teams rose to every challenge, tackling each activity with grim determination, fabulous creativity and engineering skills, and wonderful teamwork.
From the 'Find the Lego' Memory Cup Challenge, to the Colour Tower Challenge, to the Lego Quiz to the penultimate Grand Design Challenge... you were stars.
Click below to watch a short video with some of the highlights. Photos will be coming soon!
Bring your own dinner for you and your family. Ice-cream and chocolate fish provided afterwards. Enjoy all-age games and challenges, with the inaugural FISH - Lego Edition!
(No previous Lego experience necessary. All welcome - all ages!)
Last Saturday night at FISH, we enjoyed some of our old favouries, such as GIANT PICTIONARY, If You Love Me Honey Smile, a puzzle race and an interesting version of Hockey.
A new game was GOBLIN, where one person was the tagger and chased everyone all around the complex. Spencer was our speedy goblin, and we had to be quick and clever to evade him. If he tagged someone, they had to freeze and could only be unfrozen by two people and a zippy sound effect.
The only way to defeat the goblin, was to locate the pieces of a torch, which were hidden all around the building, assemble the torch and shine it onto Spencer. It took a lot of teamwork, but eventually Peatalisa 'saved' everyone from the cackling Spencer with the torch. A lot of fun!
One of the many challenges for our teams at FISH last night, was to create the best album cover. The teams had ten minutes to come up with a name for their album, create an image and photograph it. Here are three rather awesome looking covers. I wonder what their music would be like?
Instead of having FISH, our Family Fun Night on the weekend, we were invited to attend a book launch! Our families headed off to Bishopdale to help Belinda celebrate the launch of her picture book, They Day the Plants Fought Back!
There was a competition for the most creative vegetable person / character, a 'name the veggie character competition', colouring-in and some cool prizes.
Congratulations Belinda, and thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a fun night!
Check out the photos from last FISH night, in May. We enjoyed giant pictionary, blind dodgeball and steal the keys... as well as a scavenger hunt that had our team looking for everything from something shiny, a beautiful sound... to a car tyre!
Instead of our usual FISH night at the church, we will be having our picnic tea at North Hagley Park, from 5.30pm Saturday 24 November, then staying on to enjoy the entertainment at 7.30pm (featuring Dylan and Quinn!)
Last Sunday a very awesome bunch of 35 were movie stars for the day. Shot on location at St James' Park, THE CHRISTMAS STORY features a bunch of hardworking shepherds, enthusiastic angels, confused wise guys, a misunderstood innkeeper, two proud parents and of course, the reason for the season, Jesus.
THE CHRISTMAS STORY will premiere at the Family Christmas Service on Sunday December 9th, 10am, at the Chapel Street Centre.

Check out the videos and photos from this month's FISH. We had a fabulous PERCUSSION BATTLE, where teams found ordinary household items to use as instruments in a battle of the beats. It was HOME vs OFFICE...
The Home Team used kitchen and laundry implements such as buckets, pots, teapot lids and wooden spoons, even a few packets of dried food! The Office Team used pens, coffee cups, stapler, tissue and paper boxes and a computer keyboard. It was LOUD and it was FUN!
