Blessing of the Backpacks

 Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Blessing of the Backpacks and our first Awesome Time of 2025. 

Welcome back!

 

It was a hot day for the first day back at the Chapel Street Centre for 2024! Our Awesome Kids enjoyed some ice blocks to cool off.

We had our Blessing of the Backpacks and there were devotional book presentations to those who were starting secondary school.

We were so happy to see you all! Thank you for coming! You are AWESOME, God loves you and your church family loves you!

Join us on Sunday 4 Feb at 10am for our Blessing of the Backpacks.

Bring your schoolbag, kindy bag, uni bag ... and we'll have a special blessing with Rev Anne to mark the beginning of our school year.

We'll have some presentations for our youth who are beginning secondary school too.

Blessing of the Backpacks

Last Sunday, we had our Blessing of the Backpacks. 

As is our tradition at Christchurch North Methodist, our young people brought along their schoolbags and gathered at the front for a special blessing to mark the beginning of the school year. 

Liam was presented with a bible as a reminder that the love of his church family at the Chapel Street Centre, and the love of God goes with him as he starts secondary school.

We invited our congregation to write a short note of encouragement, support, bible verse or snippet of advice for our young people. We photocopied them all and made little 'books of encouragement' for each young person to take home with them. 

Thank you to our congregation for being so supportive of our youth, we really appreciate you!

Blessing of the Backpacks

 On Sunday we kicked off 2022 with a Blessing of the Backpacks, followed by our first Awesome Time of the year. There were mixed feelings about starting school. Some were starting new classrooms, new schools.

Bella and Jack were presented with bibles as they begin their secondary school education. We wish them all the best as they begin this new chapter in their lives.

In Awesome Time, we created some magnetic mirrors to reflect our mood and remind us that God loves us all the time. We also made pop-up puppets, who hid away when they were feeling sad or shy, and popped up when they were happy and excited. No matter how we are feeling, where we are or what we are doing, our God loves us just the way we are and is always with us!

Wear a mask (for all those in school years 4 and up).

Bring your vaccine pass (for those aged 12 years + over).

Blessing of the Backpacks

 Last Sunday, we had our Blessing of the Backpacks. All our young people were invited to bring along their backpack and receive a special blessing as they begin the school year. All our Awesome Leaders and our CHYPS Youth Leader were there to show their support.

Angie and Corban were presented with bibles, as is our tradition for those youth who are beginning secondary school.

Some of our CHYPS youth tried out a new game... 'Stuff Happens'. They had to rank various incidents on the 'Misery Index', which led to lots of debate! Just where on the 'Lane of Pain' would your phone falling into the toilet be? Or how about getting a tooth knocked out, or falling down stairs, or your swimming togs falling off in public?

Although we had to agree to disagree on where things were ranked on the scale, the one thing we can all agree on is that no matter what 'stuff' happens, God loves us and is with us always, giving us strength and helping us to get through it.
